Hi and welcome to my blog! I answer to Kate, Katie or Sloan (as known to family/friends, work and college friends, respectively) and I'm a Maryland girl through and through. I love the seashore and steamed crabs with lots of Old Bay and really adore this tiny little state so much that I moved back here after living in Virginia for a stint.
How did I end up in Virginia? I attended the wonderful University of Richmond on a track and cross country scholarship and later moved to Northern Virginia shortly after graduation to start a career. I met a boy at a bar there about two weeks after moving and the rest is history.
We got married almost exactly two years later in the midst of Hurricane Ernesto. A little rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? After a heartbreaking miscarriage in the summer of 2009, we got pregnant again and had a beautiful baby girl in October 2010. Isla is truly our pride and joy and she is such a little mini-me.
We have a cranky little chihuahua named Lola who lives up to her name; whatever Lola wants... She definitely has a touch of Napoleon complex in her. We bought an old fixer upper near the water shortly before we found out we were pregnant with Isla and I spent the majority of my pregnancy immersed in dust and paint and wood chips. (Doctor approved, of course). The house is just about where we want it now and I'm kind of sad that I have no more design choices to make!
I recently returned to my blog after a 10 month hiatus. What can I say? I have no free time for blogs anymore but I'm really going to try to update more regularly just so that I have a record of our lives!
I originally started blogging in 2007 after too many years of sitting by the sidelines and thinking, "I could do that!" My only regret is that I didn't start sooner because I am amazed by all of the great friendships I have made with people I've never even met in person.
My day job is in Human Resources, and while it's not the most fascinating job in the world, I'm convinced it's a pretty good match for my personality because I get to talk to many different people all day long. Yes, I'm one of those people who makes friends in the grocery store. (Thank you, Mom, for that trait).
My favorite things in life are my family, cheese, cooking or baking new recipes in beautiful vintage-y aprons and the smell of freshly-sharpened pencils…in no particular order.
I believe that life is meant to be shared, hence, this blog.
